The transcript is analysed for sentence boundaries — the moments where one idea ends and the next begins. Zoom-ins placed at these boundaries feel natural because they visually punctuate a content transition. The viewer's eye doesn't notice the scale change as intrusive because it lands between thoughts.
Pauses of 200–600ms between sentences are ideal zoom moments. The brief audio silence gives the Scale keyframe transition a clean anchor point that doesn't compete with dialogue. EditLint's silence detector feeds directly into the zoom timing engine so pauses and zoom positions are always aligned.
Sections of higher vocal energy (louder, faster delivery) are also good zoom candidates. The increased energy provides a natural motivation for a zoom-in. Energy peaks are detected from the audio waveform RMS envelope and weighted as zoom candidates alongside utterance anchors and pause points.
The ideal zoom frequency is very different between a 90-second YouTube Short and a 45-minute documentary. A Short needs a zoom every 5–10 seconds to maintain engagement. A documentary interview looks unnatural and gimmicky if zoomed that frequently.
EditLint AI's cadence slider lets you set a target zoom frequency in zooms per minute. The algorithm then selects the best-scoring candidate zoom points up to that frequency, ensuring the maximum spacing between zooms is also respected.
Local Whisper transcription provides sentence boundaries and pause timing. These are combined with the audio RMS envelope to score every potential zoom point in the sequence. Candidates are ranked by their combined utterance, pause and energy scores.
The cadence algorithm selects the top-scoring candidates up to your frequency target, ensuring the minimum spacing constraint is respected. The selected points appear in the EditLint panel as a preview list with the timestamp and score for each one. You can deselect any before applying.
Click Apply and EditLint AI writes Scale keyframes directly onto the video clips in your NLE. The sequence is duplicated before keyframes are written. The result is a smooth Ease In/Out scale animation at each selected point. Review by playing the sequence — remove any individual zoom by deleting the keyframe pair in your NLE.
